So You Want To Be A Dog Walker

There is nothing greater than the love of a dog. Their love is unconditional, unwavering, and knows no bounds. It is a pure and loyal bond that fills our lives with warmth, comfort, and endless joy. And when you get to be around them for a living, there is no such thing as a bad day.

Let me preface this post by saying that when I lost my beloved dog, Bruce, I found myself lost and overwhelmed with grief. I was trapped in a cycle of pain, longing for him, and seeking solace in my dreams, hoping his smiling face and wiggle bum would be there when I closed my eyes. Cry. Sleep. Repeat. That was my life. The experience made me realize the profound impact that losing a pet can have on our lives, a topic I'll explore in another post.

I want to emphasize how dog walking has truly transformed my life and given me a newfound sense of purpose. It was my mother who suggested getting involved with dog walking or pet sitting, and let me tell you - listen to your mother, kids! It has become my therapy, providing me with the courage to embrace the present moment and step outside of my comfort zone. The dogs I have the privilege to walk have become my greatest healers, offering unwavering support and companionship. Becoming a dog walker has been a life-changing career choice that I will forever be grateful for.

Being a dog walker is much more than just a job—it's a deeply rewarding and fulfilling profession that brings a multitude of perks. First and foremost, the joy and companionship of dogs make every day on the job an absolute delight. The genuine love and happiness they exude is contagious and can instantly lift your spirits.

The physical benefits of being a dog walker are undeniable. You get to stay active and fit by engaging in regular exercise during your walks. This active lifestyle contributes to your overall health and well-being, allowing you to enjoy the outdoors and experience the beauty of nature in the company of these four-legged friends.

In addition to the physical benefits, dog walking also offers numerous mental health advantages that contribute to a sense of well-being and overall happiness such a stress reduction and mood enhancement.

Build Relationships

Moreover, being a dog walker provides a unique opportunity to build meaningful connections with both the dogs you walk and their owners. You become an integral part of their lives, entrusted with the responsibility of caring for their beloved pets. The bonds formed with these furry companions and their owners can be truly special, creating a sense of community and friendship.

Be Your Own Boss

The flexibility of a dog walker's schedule is another perk that makes this profession attractive. Whether you choose to work part-time or full-time, you have the freedom to design a schedule that suits your lifestyle. This flexibility allows you to maintain a healthy work-life balance and pursue other interests or commitments.

Continuous Learning

Additionally, being a dog walker offers continuous learning and growth. Each dog you encounter comes with unique characteristics and needs, providing valuable opportunities to expand your knowledge of dog behavior, training techniques, and pet care. This continuous learning journey keeps your skills sharp and fosters personal development.

In summary, being a dog walker brings a multitude of perks, including the joy and companionship of dogs, the physical and mental benefits of regular exercise, the opportunity to build meaningful connections, flexible scheduling, and continuous learning. It's a profession that allows you to make a positive impact on the lives of both dogs and their owners, while also providing personal fulfillment and a sense of purpose.
